SUBSISTERS is Wolf's first full-length collection of poetry available in English, published in a bilingual German-English edition. The title poem, 'Subsisters,' features a supposedly original poem (including lines from Hollywood movies) and its translation as subtitle, but such boundaries blur as Wolf translates herself translating Mobius strip of multiple, equally valid versions of one another. In Seita's translation, she's added another layer to this multi-directional conversation: a supposedly English version, which, in turn, reworks material from her translations of the previous two poems (rather than from Wolf's German). In this way, it continues the thinking-through-translation that is central to Wolf's work.
